Stainless Steel Strip Coils: Grades and Finishes
Stainless steel coil is one of the most versatile forms that metal can take. In addition to some engineering applications, it is used in a variety of fields, including automotive, catering, and construction. Products that can be made from stainless steel tape include surgical instruments, springs, hoses, filtering devices, cutlery, and heating elements.
As one of the largest independent producers and suppliers of stainless steel, BS Stainless offers stainless steel coils in various grades in many different useful finishes.
BS Stainless can quickly and reliably supply coils of any grade of stainless steel in the 200, 300 and 400 series. Some of the most popular grades we offer are:
304. The most common grade we supply, grade 304 strip has good corrosion resistance. It is known for its ease of use when roll forming, forming and welding.
316. This alloy has molybdenum added to give it additional resistance to the damaging effects of corrosion. This grade is especially suitable for use in acidic environments and has a higher resistance to pitting corrosion.
321. Particularly suitable for welding applications, the 321 grade coil is a variant of the 304 grade and contains added titanium to make it very hard and strong. This grade shows excellent resistance to intergranular corrosion.
430. Type 430 is primarily used in the restaurant and household sector and is a ferritic stainless steel alloy with good corrosion resistance.
Stainless Steel Tape Coil Finish
BS Stainless' stainless steel comes with several different finishing options, including:
Bright Annealed (BA). Cold rolled and annealed in a controlled atmosphere, the defining characteristic of the BA finish is its high reflectivity.
Hot Rolled (HR). HR-Finished tape rolls have a scaled appearance, so are used when aesthetics are not a critical issue.
2B. The most widely used finish, 2B is characterized by its reflective, smooth grey sheen.
Two-dimensional. As a matte finish, 2D shows a low level of reflectivity.
2E. This finish has a slightly rough, dull visual appearance.
